Dr. Nancy Crossley recently joined the staff of the Clarkston Medical Group.
Labor Day marked the beginning of Crossley’s full-time position at the Clarkston practice.
Crossley, who grew up in Huntington Woods and Rochester, graduated from Wayne State University’s medical school and worked a four-year internal medicine and pediatrics residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Crossley worked part-time at the practice in June, when she graduated from her residency.
Before studying medicine, Crossley worked in the business world for many years. She maintained an interest in becoming a doctor, but she wanted to wait until her children were older.
‘I was concerned that, as babies, it would have been too difficult for me to be a parent and a doctor,? Crossley said. ‘I know there’s a lot of people who do that and do it really successfully.?
Looking back, Crossley sees her decision to wait as advantageous to her now.
‘On one hand, there are a lot of years that I haven’t been practicing medicine, but on the other hand, I’ve been doing other things which I think have really helped me,? Crossley said.
Crossley added that waiting to raise her family and working outside the medical field for so many years gave her perspective.
‘Having my kids has really taught me a lot, not only raising children and those issues, but just how to deal with people,? said Crossley.
A few months in, Crossley said the experience has been good.
‘All the staff here has been very nice… in a very short period of time I’ve gotten very, very comfortable here,? Crossley said. ‘I’ve really enjoyed the variety of patients that I’ve worked with.?
Even being part of a larger staff, Crossley said she keeps busy.
‘Starting out, it’s a little overwhelming, but I’m feeling really comfortable at this point.? Crossly said. ‘We have the urgent care here so if I have open slots in my schedule, we bring people over. That’s been a good thing for me because it’s kept me very busy.?
Crossly now lives in Addison Township with her husband of 20 years, Rich. The couple has two daughters.
