Does your mother-in-law ever drive you crazy? If so, then the Clarkston Village Players? season opener is perfect for you.
Kicking-off the season with farcical humor is ‘Red Hot Mammas,? the story of how close and frustrating families can be.
After Dan Casey’s ( played by Brian Taylor) father passes away, he asks his mother Sarah (played by Wendy Wagner) to move in with him, much to the dismay of his wife Abby (played by Amy Seaman).
Abby’s mother Claudia (played by Carol Taylor) feels left out of the new arrangement and manages to convince Abby to let her move in also. What follows is a continuous game of one-upmanship as the two women vie for the attention of the children, turning their lives upside down.
‘Mammas? is both the first production of the new season and the first CVP production directed by CVP regular Karen McClellan.
‘I’m a little nervous about it, but I’ve done a lot of backstage work,? said McClellan, who has also appeared onstage in several recent CVP productions. McClellan said she decided to try her hand at directing, and choose ‘Mammas? shortly after reading the script.
‘It’s a humorous look at the family dynamic, nothing too serious,? said assistant director Rikki Schwartz. Though there is mild language use, McCLellan said ‘Mammas? is likely appropriate for younger audience members.
Starting with this production, a small adjustment is being made to the CVP performance schedule. Opening night for the public will now be on Friday instead of the usual Thursday, which is now booked for a members? night performance.
Performances of ‘Red Hot Mammas? are scheduled for Sept. 8-9, 15-17 and 21-23. Show times are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $12 for Friday and Saturday performances and $10 for Thursday and Sunday.
