Driver succumbs to crash injuries

Roger David Thomas, 66, has died due to injuries sustained in a Dec. 18 crash on Dixie Highway near East Holly Road in Springfield Township, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit.
Thomas, a Burton resident, was driving a gravel hauler south on Dixie Highway when a 2016 GMC Acadia operated by a 66-year-old Springfield Township man pulled off a side street and in front of him, according to police. The truck struck the GMC and then overturned onto its side.
Thomas was transported in critical condition to Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township by the Springfield Township Fire Department. He was later transferred to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, where he was pronounced dead on Dec. 29 at 1:58 p.m.
The driver of the SUV was not injured but was transported to Genesys hospital as a precautionary measure.
This case will be presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
