Fireworks group hopes to raise $30,000

Spring is just beginning, but the Lake Orion Fireworks Association is already thinking the Fourth of July.
Fundraising for the annual Lake Orion Fireworks has begun, with the kick-off restaurant crawl event set for this Saturday, March 29. The annual Firecracker Crawl will be held 7-11:30 p.m., with at least eight restaurants; including Orion Sports Bar, Boathouse Waterfront Restaurant, Orion House, Hamlin Pub, Wagon Wheel, Bonzai Bob’s, Sagebrush Cantina, Fat Daddy’s and Opa; participating.
Each restaurant will provide complementary snacks, while donating the entire proceeds from the ticket sales to the Fireworks Fund. Each restaurant manager has volunteered to sell at least 25 tickets at a cost of $15 each. The Firecracker Crawl will provide a minimum of $375 to the fund from each restaurant.
Shuttle service will be provided between the restaurants by: Capri Limousines, Golling Pontiac, Roberts Pontiac and Wally Edgar Chevrolet. Hubert Distributing has donated tickets, posters, wristbands and a cash contribution.
Tickets are available at all participating restaurants, as well as at Century 21 Executives, 2604 W. Clarkston, 814-9117.
Volunteers will also be selling red, white and blue beads and red, white and blue beaded bracelets at the event to raise money for the fireworks. Anyone willing to volunteer to sell during the Firecracker Crawl should contact Crystal English at (248) 814-0537, extension 134.
According to Lake Orion Fireworks Association volunteer Certified Public Accountant Chris Peterson, the fireworks fund has $800 left from last year’s fundraising efforts. Peterson said a total of $29,857 was collected, with checks issued for $30,547, including $22,000 to the fireworks company. The rest was used for event promotion, including T-shirts, tickets, transportation, advertising and supplies.
Lake Orion Fireworks Association Chairman Carl Cyrowski has set a goal to raise $30,000 for this year’s show. The committee held its first meeting in March, in order to get an early start on fundraising activities. The committee has several ideas for fundraising events to be held between now and July 4th, some of them family-oriented with the involvement of children.
Anyone wishing to just send the Lake Orion Fireworks Association a donation, can make checks payable to the Lake Orion Fireworks Association, and send it to Cyrowski’s Century 21 Executives office. The committee plans to keep the community informed on the results of their fundraising efforts throughout the next few months. Volunteers are welcomed.
The Lake Orion Fireworks Association wishes to thank everyone who contributed last year, and in the past, especially the children who dropped by Cyrowski’s office to deposit their change. The association also thanks Roberts Pontiac, Capri Limousines, Golling Pontiac and Wally Edgar Chevrolet for donating vehicles.
