Kickers are looking forward to the beginning of October after last week’s games in the OAA Red.
The ended the week with a lost to Rochester Adams on Thursday, 6-1.
“We struggled,” said Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Chuck Lawhorn. “It was not a very good game for us.”
Lawhorn drew the loss from the team’s response from their game against Stoney Creek, on Sept. 21, when the boys played against their previous coach Adam Bican and tied, 2-2.
“We had a bit of a emotional and physical letdown after the Stoney Creek game,” he added. “We weren’t able to pick ourselves up enough to compete with Rochester Adams. They played a very good game.”
The Clarkston goal came from the foot of Drew Hopper.
The boys effort against Stoney Creek was better on Tuesday and held a tough defense against their hosts.
“It was the effort I have been expecting to see all year,” said Lawhorn. “Sometimes I see it, other times it has been absent.”
Stoney Creek was the first one to score in the game, putting their goal in less than five minutes into the game.
The Wolves added their point to board ten minutes later from Alex Wilson, with an assist from teammate Jarrett Kersten.
With both sides working hard another opportunity didn’t open until the end of the second half.
The Cougars scored putting themselves into the lead.
“We picked up in effort,” said Lawhorn. “At that point we were playing 9 vs. 9 because each team had a player get red-carded. We really played hard.”
The result of their effort came with four minutes left in the game.
Wilson passed the ball to Kersten, who put it into the net for the tie.
“We played a really competitive game,” said Lawhorn.
Both games put Clarkston’s overall record 4-5-3 and 0-4-1 in OAA Red.
The boys played Troy Athens on Tuesday and host Oxford on Thursday.
“We need to build some consistency and put that effort out on the field everytime we are out there,” said Lawhorn.
The game against the Wildcats begins at 5:30 p.m. with the JV team, varsity follows.
