Funding allows state roadwork to continue

Let the road work continue.
The Road Commission for Oakland County has been promised $500,000 for August and the same amount for September for routine road work on state roads.
The county ran out of money last month due to a lack of state funding for work such as boulevard mowing, routine drainage work, routine pothole patching, litter removal, and road kill collection. The county has a maintenance contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Craig Bryson, public information officer for the RCOC said the additional money will be enough to get the roadwork done until the new fiscal year begins in October, although they may have to do one less freeway sweeping or slope and median mowing near the freeways than would normally be done.
Bryson added that MDOT has committed to sitting down with the RCOC to resolve the problem, which they believe means they will be budgeted more money.
‘Realistically, we probably need a couple more million– 12 million for one fiscal year to take care of everything in case of a really harsh winter like we had last year.?
