Girls show strong spirit on the field

The varsity girls huddled together after the game, threw up their lacrosse sticks and thanked Hartland, officials, and fans for a great game.
They lost their season opener to Hartland, 11-7, but during the game worked hard to prove they were ready for their new season.
‘It was pretty impressive,? said Clarkston coach Kaitlyn Sitar. ‘Passing up and down the field was 10 times better than it was last year. They worked well as a team, that was nice to see.?
A majority of the team has been together for three years, when they started out as a club sport. Last year, they made school history by become Clarkston’s first girls lacrosse team.
‘Scoring seven goals was still pretty impressive,? said Sitar. ‘Their endurance this year is also impressive, playing the whole game and not being winded. It was nice to see that.?
Hartland led the first half of the game, 7-3.
Mickayla Meola scored two goals for Clarkston and Kelsey Reardon scored one.
The second half had barely started when Kelsey Thompson made the Wolves’s fourth goal less than two minutes into it.
Kellyn Carpenter followed suit and made the next goal a minute later.
Carrie Thams brought Clarkston up by one more goal, leaving a two-point deficit between the Wolves and Eagles, 8-6.
In the next six minutes, Hartland scored three more goals that secured their win.
Meola scored one more goal for the Wolves with two minutes left in the game, bringing the team up, 11-7.
Clarkston continued the final moments of the game keeping the Eagles out of the goal’s reach.
The team played its first home game on Monday against Swartz Creek. They lost, 12-1.
The next week will keep the team on the road as they play Troy High School on Thursday, Farmington on Monday, and Lake Orion on Tuesday.
