Honors galore for BPA students

A total of 15 Clarkston High School students competed in the Business Professionals of America 2021 Virtual State Leadership Competition, March 13-20.
The following state qualifiers competed in fields from finance to medical to technology: Hunter Bogar, Martin Cordoba, Nathan Dimmer, Gavin Donchez, Noah Fasczewski, Meghan Finnerty, Ben Garvin, Evan Hackstock, Reagan Hakala, Julia Heilman, Cameron Hempton, Alex Moscone, Phoebe Savoie, Andrew Sesti, and Jacob Zelinski.
Five students qualified for the National Leadership Conference, which took place virtually April 27-May 7, by medaling in the following events:
Nathan Dimmer: Computer Networking (first place), Java Programming (third place), Computer Programming Concepts (third place); Reagan Hakala, Phoebe Savoie, and Julia Heilman: Financial Analyst Team (first place); Jacob Zelinski: Payroll Accounting (first place), Administrative Concepts (first place), Business Meeting Management (first place).
“I enjoyed the virtual experience and appreciated being a part of my group even though we were in a pandemic. I am so excited to compete at Nationals,” said Hakala.
Business Professionals of America has more than 45,000 members, in over 1,800 chapters across 25 states. For over 50 years, BPA has provided its members with opportunities for growth through education, competition, community service and personal development.
A major component of BPA is the Workplace Skills Assessment Program (WSAP). The WSAP prepares students for real world career skills in finance, management, information technology, and computer applications. There are more than 90 categories for students to prepare for and compete in contests to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
“I’m really proud of how well our team performed, especially given the circumstances this year,” said Dimmer, also the CHS BPA president. “I wish the best of luck to everyone moving on to Nationals.”
