The tournament began with a rain out on Friday which gave the players a chance for great team and family bonding. ICE Workman 16U came back hungry for wins on Saturday.
They finished Saturday’s pool play with a 1-1-1 record and being seeded No. 19 for bracket play into Sunday. The team had only nine players for the weekend and had to borrow one local player to assist in case of injury.

“I knew we were going to do well in the bracket when I realized we had faced the No. 1 seeded team Ohio USSSA Pride-Scarlet in pool play and held them to 0-0 until the seventh inning when they took the lead winning 3-0,” said Holly Workman, head coach.
Sunday found ICE playing and securing five wins. They began the morning facing Amerherst Lighting-Vickers, finishing with a 7-2 win. It was then onto to face Valley Extreme- Fife for a 5-0 win.
“Game three found us victorious versus Hockomock Rox, 6-3, whom we had tied in pool play,” Workman shared. “Game four for verse New York Intensity was a hard fought win with some exciting offensive moves resulting in a final score of 7-1.”
ICE Silver headed into the championship game facing NY Diamond Girls 02, who had won the championship for the last two years.
“The girls were tired with only nine players, but played like a family with some great defensive plays and constant bats with a final score of 7-2,” said Workman. “Pitching was phenomenal. Lizzy Rottenberk, Aryn Gallacher, and Lauren Viele all worked together like a well oiled machine getting the job done.”
She added a special shout out to catcher Grace Peterson, who caught for more than four solid games.
“She was just a defensive beast out there even throwing out an attempt steal at second base in the final game after having caught four games,” Workman said. “I couldn’t be prouder of these girls. They are a solid group with an incredible skill set, but even more important they all get along like best friends. This team has the ‘IT’ factor and is one to watch for the rest of the summer.”
