Inferno sizzle the field during championship and season

The Inferno, sponsored by Independence Professional Firefighters, won the Independence Parks, Recreation and Seniors Boys 13-14 year-old Baseball Championship.
They won the championship game with a 16-0 score in five innings, and offense and defense worked hard to seal the win.
“Offense was a team effort,” said Dave Murphy, head coach. “All the boys hit and got on base. Defense was led by great pitching from Zane Wilson who was caught by Noah Wenzell. This pitcher-catcher combo was key to the 5-inning shut out.”

Murphy added three of the players came a long distance from Boy Scout Camp just in time to play in the last game. Then, went back to camp.
The Inferno team includes Alec Brisse, Caleb Cummings, Jacob Fieldbrandt, Jacob King, Colin Kortman, Mason McClellan, Andy Murphy, Pierce Peruski, Gavin Stamper, Devin Wancour, Noah Wenzell and Zane Wilson.
The team is coached by Dave Murphy, head coach, and Bob Wilson, assistant coach. They have coached most of these boys since they started in T-ball.
“The players all get along and are like best friends,” Murphy said. “They have played together for years and know how to work together. They have such great attitudes, give constant effort, lift each other up, and respect the game. They gel so well together.”
He added the team had a great year and only had one loss.
“They played hard all year and really put in a lot of effort,” Murphy said.
It wasn’t the first time the Infernos won a championship. They were the 11-12 champions last year and the boys really wanted to prove they could do it again in the higher age league.
After the championship game the Independence Professional Firefighter sponsors took the boys out for ice cream.
“The boys loved it, and it was great to see them at the game supporting the team,” Murphy said. “It was a great way to end the season.”
