Keiser’s Role: My heart is in Clarkston

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others – Gandhi
As I sit down and write this, I have just returned from the 31 Annual Clarkston Community Awards where “do gooders” were recognized for the different ways they have contributed to the community.
Recognition categories included Citizen of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Adult-Youth Volunteer, Young Person of the Year, Community Beautification/Preservation, Community Enhancement and Community Collaboriation.
These kind of events make me smile. I always like to see people who give unselfishly of themselves to help others and to give back to their communtiy.
One of the things I was looking forward to upon my return to Clarkston was going back to going to all the different events honoring people and organizations what they do for the community.
Whether it’s SCAMP, Lighthouse, Optimist Club, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Clarkston Farm & Garden, a church or one of the many “Johnny- Do-Gooders” down the street who volunteers his or her time to mentor someone else. Those things make me proud to be apart of this community even if it’s just for work.
Since my return I’ve enjoyed running into many new and old faces while I’ve been around town covering the different events. It’s humbling having so many people welcome me back and excited about my return to the paper.
Our job at the paper isn’t just giving you the news from the Independence Township Board, the Clarkston City Council or Clarkston Community School Board meetings, but it’s also capturing those people, events and organizations which make this community what it is.
I would like to give a shoutout to this year’s individuals and groups who were honored at this year’s awards ceremony. It’s people like you who make this community and this world a better place.
Be sure to get next week’s edition to for more on the awards.
