A column by Kirsten Isbell
I have grown up and lived in Clarkston my entire life and let me tell you, it has truly been a blessing.
I am currently finishing up my last semester at Arizona Sate University. As I am finishing up, I am working for The Clarkston News and it is an honor to work for my hometown paper.
I remember when I was in high school, my parents had a subscription to the paper and my favorite thing to read was Athlete of the Week in the sports section.
At the time I do not think I realized how much I wanted to have a career in journalism, but looking back I can see just how much I was inspired by one section of the newspaper.
One day I hope to be in sports journalism or working for a sports team doing public relations.
Working for The Clarkston News really is a dream come true.
To have the opportunity to interact with members of the community on a daily basis and learn what they are passionate about is one of the best parts about being able to work for my hometown newspaper.
I think working here is giving me the opportunity to expand my horizons, and I am learning so many new things about the community I never knew about.
Having the opportunity to intern here is pretty amazing.
My first week here one of my stories was published and on the third page of the paper.
Picking up the paper and opening it to see my name and my story published made me so excited and it gave me confirmation I am definitely in the right career field.
Clarkston is the best place a girl could ask to grow up in. I am proud to call this place my home.
My boyfriend is from the Upper Peninsula and being able to show him the town I grew up in and now live in that town with him is a blessing.
The Clarkston community is amazing and I am thankful to live in such a great community.
If you stuck with me until the end, thanks for taking the time to read a glimpse of my life story and learn what I am passionate about.
