For Don and Margie Arsen of Independence Township, the speakers at Oakland Town Hall continue their education.
“The speakers are stimulating. They come in and tell very interesting stories,” Margie said.
“I like the food,” Don said.
Memorable speakers over the years include a generational expert and a television news reporter.
“It was nice to be close to him at the town hall and then see him on TV,” Margie said.
“I like the learning experience and the knowledge I get from the speakers, and of course the camaraderie with my friends,” said Nancy Holan of Waterford, Oakland Town Hall recording secretary who has been with the group off and on for about 20 years total. “One I remember is Gene Kelly’s wife (Patricia Ward Kelly) just a couple years ago. She brought clips from Gene’s old films. It was a nostalgia event from the ’50s.”
The non-profit group hosts Frank Farmer Loomis, nationally recognized antiques expert, at 10:30 a.m. on May 10. Tickets are $42 for lecture and lunch; $26 for lecture only, at St. George Cultural Center, 43816 Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Hills. Call Linda at 248-625-4137.
