Locking in first place

Wrestler Matt Dietz (125) led the way for Clarkston this past weekend, taking champion, while Bryant Craft (189) took first place.
They led Clarkston’s grapplers to first place in the Hammer and Anvil Tournament, Mount Orab, Ohio.
‘The guys wrestled well,? said Coach Joe DeGain.
The Wolves went in with a blank slate, not knowing anything about their competitors, which helped them focus better, he said.
‘They wrestle better when they’re not playing mind games with themselves. They are wrestling the body in front of them.?
Finishing in second place in their weight classes were Anthony Herron (152) and Adam Lauzun (171).
Third place finishers were Jeff Sloney (103) and Alex Popp (135).
Evan King (145) took fourth place.
Ty Foltz (112), Matt Vandermeer (152), Erik Butterfield (160), and Sloan Hadsall (215) took fifth place in their weight classes.
The team competed against 14 schools, most from the Ohio area. Only two teams came from out of state, the other from Kentucky.
On Wednesday, Clarkston will hold a dual meet. One of the schools they will compete against is Temperance Bedford, ranked fifth in Division 1.
‘We’re excited. It will be a great dual. Temperance is one of the most established in the whole state. We haven’t wrestled them in a while. We are very excited to have them.
The dual meet will begin at 5:30 at Clarkston High School.
