15 years ago – 2002
“Lighthouse helps out families in crisis” The Clarkston Lighthouse helped make the holiday more festive as they helped 698 families, including 1,147 children, with toys, clothing and food.
“Clarkston Middle School Lego team goes to states” Ten Clarkston Middle School students in the FIRST Lego League Robotics Team worked together to combat the problem given to them at the regional competition. They were one of nine teams out of 36 to advance to the state tournament.
“Wolves dominate Oakland County meet” The Clarkston Varsity Wrestling team had 11 members place at the Oakland County meet as the team finished in first place with 339.5 points for their second straight county title.

25 years ago – 1992
“Fire hits on Christmas” A Christmas day fire left a Chickadee Lane home in Independence Township severly damaged. Neighbors noticed flames coming out of the kitchen at 1:30 p.m.
“Santa comes to town” On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus (Gordy Bovee) and helpers made their way down Main Street in downtown Clarkston for their annual holiday run.
“Realtors finds homes for ‘goldies’” Independence Township Laura Culp was in the business to find homes for wayward golden retrievers as rescue committee director for the Fort Detroit Golden Retriever Rescue Service.

50 years ago – 1967
“Receive Christmas decoration awards” The fifth annual Outdoor Christmas Decoration Contest, sponsored by the Clarkston Area Jaycees was judged. First place went to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hagen, off Cranberry Lake Road, as they received the Santa trophy and $25 gift certificate.
“Women’s Club holds Christmas party” The Clarkston Community Women’s Club held its annual Christmas meeting and cookie exchange at the home of Mrs. Robert Schons. After a short business meeting, members enjoyed a social evening in celebration of Christmas.
“School happenings” The traditional treat of a Christmas program was given at Bailey Lake Elementary to the parents of Mrs. Washburn’s afternoon Kindergarten class. Many songs of the season were chosen by the children and enjoyed by the grown ups.
