Making good decisions

Freshman Erin Davenport’s cheering section sat right in the middle of the bleachers encouraging her on Friday night.
During her first game wearing a varsity jersey she added eight points to the board, the second highest scorer for the night against Southfield-Lathrup.
The leader for the night was Lindsey Reppuhn with nine points, two 3-pointers towards the score.
The girls lost the home game, 49-29, but Amy Quayle, assistant coach, saw a lot of glimmers and things the girls can work on.
‘We are taking the ball to the basket,? she said. ‘We are penetrating the gaps and getting wide open shots.?
While the girls made good decisions at timing when they shot the ball, the throws didn’t finish as they had planned.
‘We work so hard,? said Quayle. ‘We sometimes struggle with some of the things we are doing. It’s hard because as we look at the scoreboard, the score keeps going up on one side and we stagnant. The desire, the hope and the wants slowly fades. They would never fade if it was a back and forth battle.?
The girls finished the first half, 28-24. Upon returning to the court after the break they had more drive and kept Southfield-Lathrup to six points.
‘Jessica Ming did a nice job tonight defensively,? Quayle noticed.
‘She is one person willing to put her body in harm’s way and take as many charges as she can.?
Another standout for the night was Reppuhn, on offense.
‘She sank the ball. It was tough when she came out with two fouls at the beginning of the first quarter,? said Quayle.
The girls took on North Farmington on Monday, a make-up game after their game was cancelled last Wednesday.
They lost the game, 44-35, bringing the team’s record to 4-12.
Megan Hastings led scoring nine points.
They took on Rochester Adams on Tuesday and host Rochester on Thursday.
‘They are all winnable games,? said Quayle. ‘When our girls are on, they are on. When the glimmers come together and all five on the court are glimmering at the same time the girls? confidences boost.?
The girls continue on Tuesday against Pontiac.
‘We have some tough battles on the way, but if we play together, work hard, we pull together in confidence, we will do well.?
All games begin at 5:30 p.m. with the JV game, varsity follows.
