Meola leads in first lacrosse win

Lady Wolves formed their defense block around the lacrosse net and had their sticks ready as Brighton threw their shot.
The ball missed the net and Clarkston picked up the ball and ran to the other side of the field.
Mickayla Meola took aim as the seconds counted down on the scoreboard and the ball landed in the net.
It was Meola’s second goal within a minute. The previous goal had broken the tied score.
The girls continued the lead in the second half and won their first game of the season, 9-8.
‘It felt great,? said Meola. ‘We started down. Then, we worked together. It’s a great start of the season.?
For head coaches, Kaitlyn Sitar and Renee Turner, everything for the girls clicked on the field.
‘They had control and confidence,? said Sitar. ‘They were able to work their sticks and still keep their heads up. They saw the field and worked with it. They knew they needed to hold it and they did even when the pressure was on them. If they lost the ball, they got it right back.?
Meola led with four goals during the game. Chesney Oldenburg, Jessica Goyke, and Kelsey Reardon added a goal.
Freshman Jenica Debrowski and Danielle Dunn shots also attributed two goals for the team.
‘Danielle did a good job stick handling up and down the field,? said Sitar. ‘It paid off for her and she scored her first goal as a freshman.?
Dunn scored her goal with 12 minutes left in the game. Brighton set up a three man block as Dunn ran towards the goal. She swerved to the right and threw the ball into the net.
Reardon had added her goal just a minute before Dunn’s goal, breaking the 6-6 tie.
‘They did a fantastic job,? said Turner. ‘The thing they are working on the most is passing down the field and they made strategic passes.?
