Meola leads the way

The girls lacrosse team was ready to show Waterford United they would not lose to them again this year.
They succeeded and won their first game of the season, 8-5.
‘They have been pumped up for this game for a while. This is one of our biggest rivals from last year,? said Clarkston coach Kaitlyn Sitar.
‘We lost to them last year by a one point difference. We lost to them twice by one. They were coming back for this. They were ready to do what they needed to do. It was definitely the best game yet. Lots of energy. Their passing was good. They scored. Everything fell into place tonight.?
Mickayla Meola led her team to victory by scoring four goals.
‘We did amazing,? said Meola. ‘Everyone worked together, defense, offense. It was awesome. Waterford was my old team, so there was no losing.?
Meola was the first to make a goal in the game.
Waterford had the ball in Clarkston’s defense, Meola gained possession and made a run towards Waterford’s goal. Only two defenders stood ready to block Meola. She shot past them and put the ball into the net.
Waterford took control of the scoreboard by scoring two goals.
Meola tied the score with a minute and a half to go in the first half. She made her first attempt on the net, but it was blocked by the goalie. Meola shot the ball again. It bounced off of the ground and into the net.
Kelsey Reardon put one more into the next less than 30 seconds later.
Waterford scored one more time and went into the second half in a tie. The Lady Wolves led the remainder of the game and kept Waterford to scoring two goals.
In the second half of the game, Meola scored two more goals. Reardon, Andrea Kovacic, Kellyn Carpenter each scored a goal for the Wolves.
Becky Furlo had one assist.
JV was also successful against Waterford United, 2-1. It was their second win in a roll. Earlier in the week, they beat Midland, 9-8.
On April 23, varsity lost to Bloomfield United, 13-2 and JV lost, 9-4.
The varsity played Rochester on Tuesday and will play at Flushing on Thursday. The game begins at 7 p.m.
JV and varsity will host Lake Orion on Saturday. JV begins at noon, varsity follows.
All proceeds from the girls and boys lacrosse games on Saturday go to Karmanos Cancer Institute.
They host Notre Dame Prep on Monday. JV begins at 6:30 p.m., varsity follows.
