Mountaineers finish as champs

The Clarkston Everest Collegiate Competitive Cheer team swept all three rounds to win the Cardinal Division Championship at St. Catherine on Feb. 11.

They scored a total of 662.92 points, with 208.11 points in the first round; 186.621 in the second round; and 268.21 in the third round. Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard finished in second place with 629.84 points; Allen Park Cabrini, third place, 579.95; and Madison Heights Bishop Foley, fourth place, 563.8. The Mountaineers previously won the Cardinal Division championship in 2013 and 2015.
They compete in the MHSAA Division 4 District 22 Competitive Cheer meet at Vassar on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The team is Erin Booms, Molly Burgess, Andrea Gonzalo, Scarlett Hamilton, Lauren Marshall, Abby Milosch, Kristina Moran, Jane Nedwick, Catherine Smith and Allison Tong. Nancy Strach is head coach.

The Clarkston Everest Collegiate Boys Varsity Basketball team claimed the Catholic High School League title with a 67-42 victoy over Cabrini.
They claimed the league title in 2012 and 2013. Joey Thibodeau led with 18 points and Michael McGrath had 17 points.
The Mountaineers hosted Our Lady of the Lakes on Feb. 11, and defeated their rivals, 50-48.
Sophomore Johnny Nedwick sunk a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded in the victory. He had nine points for the night.
Lucas Cross led with 18 points and McGrath had ten points.
The Mountaineers host Novi Christian this Thursday, 6 p.m. They play the first round of CHSL playoffs on Saturday at Academy of Sacred Heart. Time to be determined.
