Spikers dominated the courts last week as they won the Northville tournament and posted two wins over league foes.
“We are just getting better and better every day,” said Kelly Pinner, head coach for Clarkston Varsity Volleyball. “Things are starting to gel a little bit for us. Elizabeth Adams, who is one of our middles that’s a sophomore, is just more experienced every time she plays. She just gets better and better that has definitely been a huge improvement for us is to play out of our middles. The Jidas sisters, Summer and Skyelar, are both just serving the lives out of other people. They are combining for multiple aces every match we play.”
The Wolves defeated the Northville Mustangs during their own tournament with a 2-1 win on Saturday, as they lost the first game 25-23 and took the last two 25-19 and 15-11.

“We had to play Bedford in our pool play,” said Kelly Pinner, head coach. “They are strong team and they were definitely competitive. Our semifinal was against Ann Arbor Skyline and they are ranked top ten in the state.”
During the day they posted 2-0 wins over Bedford (25-18, 25-20), Fenton (25-12, 25-17), Huron (25-7, 25-12), Cass Tech (25-8, 25-10), and Ann Arbor Skyline (25-19, 25-13).
During the tournament Summer Jidas had 13 aces and 54 digs. Jordan Newblatt had 10 aces, 10 blocks and 53 kills. Sydney Hasenfratz had 27 kills and 17 blocks, Claire Nowicki had 27 kills and 11 blocks, and Skyelar Jidas had 11 aces.
The Wolves posted 3-0 over Groves and West Bloomfield in their OAA Red matches last week. They opened the week scoring 25-18, 25-17, 25-18 over Groves on Sept. 24. They defeated the Lakers on Thursday, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-21.
“They are both decent teams,” Pinner said. “Groves has a girl who is going to USC so that definitely brings the level of competition for us. West Bloomfield is really strong all the way around. Both were very good match ups.”
During the league matches, Newblatt and Nowicki both had 25 kills, Hasenfratz had 12 blocks and ten kills, and Skyelar had four aces.
Clarkston hosts their Pink Out this Thursday against Stoney Creek. All donations from the night benefit The University of Michigan Research Center.
“We are pretty excited about it,” said Pinner. “Being home is always fun but I think brings some challenges for us because I think the girls need to learn how to stay focused at home.”
JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
