News in Brief

Student count day

Today was Student Count Day throughout Michigan, determining school funding from the state based on the number of students in each district. Clarkston receives $7,511 per student.
This year Deputy Superintendent Shawn Ryan predicted the district to be 100 students down on count day, which is equivalent to a loss of $751,000 for the school year.
“A 100-student loss was budgeted for the 2016-17 school year and we are able to still be significantly in the positive overall,” Ryan said in an email. “This is due to revenue generated through this year’s increase in per pupil state funding, previous budget surpluses and additional district programs that have generated revenue.”
