School admins hired

Lori Banaszak was hired as administrator of technology integration, $84,244 to start, topping out at $103,609; and Mary Ellen Roe was approved as the new director of marketing, $72,899-$89,656, at the Feb. 13 school board meeting.
Two instructional staff members were also added to the district’s shared service program at Auburn Hills Christian and St. Mary’s Preparatory School in Orchard Lake.
Support staff added five people as replacements – four paraeducators at Clarkston, Springfield Plains, and North Sashabaw elementaries, and Clarkston High School, and a café helper.

Community awards

Nomination deadline for this year’s Clarkston Community Awards is March 10.
Nominations are now open for Citizen of the Year, Youth of the Year, Adult-Youth Volunteer, Business Person of the Year, Community Beautification/Preservation, Community Enhancement, and Community Collaboration.
The Clarkston Community Awards presentation will be on Tuesday, May 23, at Clarkston Community Church.
Nominations are online at clarkstoncchurch.nm-secure.com/clarkston-awards-breakfast. Forms are at Clarkston Community Schools Administration Building, 6389 Clarkston Road.

Conservancy meeting

Jay Blair of the Oakland Conservation District will speak on “Gardening for Pollinators” at the Annual Meeting of North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy, Saturday, Feb. 25, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Hart Center in Davisburg.
Participants will be asked to grow Black-eyed Susans, a nectar species, to help the tiny Poweshiek skipperling butterfly survive in the Davisburg area. Free seeds and potting soil will be available, as well as other displays regarding citizen participation in protecting the environment locally.
