Open house meeting on Sashabaw Road work

Independence Township and Road Commission for Oakland County will host an open-house informational meeting on Sashabaw Road inprovements between I-75 and DTE Music Theater.
The meeting, also in partnership with Michigan Department of Transportation, will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 17, at Independence Township Hall, 6483 Waldon Center Drive.
Proposed improvements include widening Sashabaw Road to five lanes, continuous center-left turn lane and an additional southbound through lane, eight-foot-wide sidewalk along the east side of the road from Sashabaw crossings to north of DTE Music Theatre, street lighting, and sewer.
The 2018 project will cost approximately $4.6 million.

Public hearings

Clarkston Planning Commission hosts two public hearings next week.
On April 11, the commission will hear comments regarding merging five lots at the corner of M-15 and Waldon Drive into one lot. The property, owned by Deanna Olsen and Ed Adler, was subjected to a stop-work order by the city in 2015 after it was cleared of trees.
A public hearing on April 12 is in regards to a request for rezoning of the 42 West Washington property.
The property, owned by Lehman Investment Co. LLC, would be rezoned for a wedding and meeting place, according to documents filed with the city.
The meetings will be at 7 p.m. at city hall, 375 Depot Road.

School contracts

Clarkston Board of Education approved the purchase of a licensing agreement for Seesaw, a student-driven digital portfolio tool for kindergarten-seventh grade staff and students.
The three-year agreement will cost $24,300 for the first year and $12,150 each for years two and three, a total of $48,600.
A lawn maintenance contract was approved by the Board of Education for $59,670 per year. The contract spans three years, starting April 15, 2017 and ending Nov. 30, 2020, for a total cost of $179,010.
