Budget hearing

Clarkston City Council hosts a public hearing on the 2017-2018 budget, 7 p.m., Monday, June 12.
The $862,513 budget includes $8,000 for one parking kiosk for the city parking lot at Washington and Main streets, $8,500 for sidewalk repair on Miller Road, $16,000 for asphalt pavement overlay on Miller Road, and $12,000 for Village Hall building repair.
Property tax millage would be 12.0966 mills, down from 12.1056 last year. Taxable value of property is $40.8 million, up from $39.4 million last year. Fund balance would be $185,625, up from $180,638 last year.

Railroad work

Railroad work will continue on White Lake Road this week, just north of Andersonville Road in Independence Township.
Canadian National is repairing the railroad crossing.
The detour for vehicle traffic is Clement Road to Andersonville Road, back to White Lake Road and vice versa.
The detour for truck traffic is Andersonville Road to Dixie Highway, back to White Lake Road and vice versa.
Canadian National is expected to conclude the repair work on Friday, June 9. White Lake Road carries approximately 17,800 vehicles daily.

$100 grand award

Clarkston volunteers Jeff Lichty and Mary Sloan have been recognized by international disaster relief organization ShelterBox for raising more than $100,000 for disaster survivors worldwide.
ShelterBox provides humanitarian aid such as tents, blankets and water filtration systems to help families rebuild following natural disasters or conflicts. Since 2000, ShelterBox has helped more than 1.1 million people in nearly 100 countries around the world.
Of the nearly 500 ShelterBox volunteer fundraisers, Lichty and Sloan join 18 other volunteers who have reached this milestone, earning a spot in the ShelterBox Hall of Fame.
The funds raised through their efforts have provided more than 100 families with humanitarian aid.
