OMS adopts six needy families via Lighthouse

Six families in need will have a joyous Christmas this year thanks to the generosity of Oxford Middle School.
Boxes and bags full of necessities and fun things were loaded into a big truck by the OMS wrestling team Dec. 14.
This year the school adopted six families, each with seven or eight members, through Lighthouse of Oakland County in Pontiac.
‘We asked for local families with kids approximately our students? ages,? said Megan Van Sickle, student council adviser and social worker at OMS.
Each advisory period was given a family member to buy for.
‘They got a list from Lighthouse of all the things they needed,? Van Sickle said. ‘Everything they asked for for Christmas.?
Some students brought in money and had one person do all the shopping. Some students brought in gift cards. Some students brought in items right off the lists.
‘They all did it differently,? Van Sickle said.
In the end, it was a huge success.
‘Pretty much we got every single thing on the list from underwear and socks to all the toys,? Van Sickle said. ‘All the kids got jackets and boots ? hats and mittens.?
Each family also received some food from the drive OMS held for the Lions Club’s Christmas baskets.
Van Sickle believes this year’s adopt-a-family drive was the most successful. ‘We didn’t have a truck totally filled like this last year,? she said.
