Even though COVID-19 has you stuck inside, you can still help children across the country by reading your favorite book.
Disney and First Book teamed up for their Eighth Annual Magic of Storytelling Campaign, which provides new books to underserved communities across the country.
Disney will donate one book for each “shelfie,” a picture of yourself with a book or a bookshelf, shared online.
“Reading has always been an important part of my life,” said Nathan Dimmer, founder and president of the Kids Care club at Clarkston High School, “It’s important that we give others the same kinds of opportunities to learn and grow through reading, especially in this difficult time.”
Kids Care club’s goal is to post at least 1,000 “shelfies” this year, before the campaign ends on March 31. Readers of all ages are encouraged to participate by taking a picture of yourself with your favorite book, then posting it on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #MagicOfStorytelling and #KidsCareBooks.
Disney Publishing Worldwide has so far donated 75 million books to First Book, a nonprofit organization providing educational resources to communities in need throughout the U.S. Since 1992, First Book has distributed over 185 million books and serves an average of 5 million children per year.
