Police reports: Feb. 22, 2023

Tasered
On Feb. 16 just before 7:30 p.m., Independence Township deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Hawksmoore Court for an alarm call.
While completing an exterior check of the residence, a deputy viewed a man running with a ladder west from the residence. The suspect dropped the ladder and continued to run from the deputy after numerous orders to stop were ignored.
The deputy continued to chase the suspect, a 52-year-old Mount Morris man, and he was subsequently tasered and taken into custody without incident.
Independence Township detectives were contacted and continue to investigate.
The suspect was lodged at the Oakland County Jail awaiting potential charges from the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. An arraignment will follow if charges are issued, which was most likely set to take place on Feb. 18.

Vehicle rollover
Independence Township deputies were dispatched to the area of I-75 and Sashabaw Road at 7:48 p.m. on Feb. 16 for a vehicle rollover.
Township units arrived on scene and were advised by the Independence Fire Department that the driver and sole occupant were not injured. Michigan State Police arrived and the incident was turned over to them.
Townships units remained on scene to assist the MSP with traffic control. Independence units cleared the area at 8:33 p.m.

Traffic accident
On Feb. 16 at 9:48 p.m., Independence Township deputies were dispatched to the area of I-75 and Ortonville Road for an accident involving several vehicles.
Township units arrived on scene and assisted MSP with traffic control.
Independence Township Fire Department personnel treated the occupants of the vehicles.
Independence units cleared the scene at 10:37 p.m.
Stable condition
On Feb. 15 just after 8 p.m., a 19-year-old resident of Independence Township was operating a 2008 Mazda 3 eastbound on Maybee Road when he ran off the north side of the roadway and into a ditch.
After colliding with the ditch, the vehicle struck a culvert, causing the vehicle to roll over, ejecting the driver.
The driver was transported to McLaren Oakland in Pontiac by the Independence Township Fire Department where he was listed in stable condition as of Feb. 17.
It appears the driver was not wearing a seat belt. Alcohol and speed appear to be a factor in this crash, which remains under investigation.
A search warrant for the driver’s blood was completed. Result is pending.
