Racers take third in state

Maddy Dunn led the girls ski team in the Giant Slalom at finals on Monday.
The team took third place, finishing behind Marquette and Traverse City Central. Analicia Honkanen and Kelly Peters finished in the top ten at seventh and ninth.
‘They did awesome,? said Coach Ryan Parrott. ‘They were second in Giant Slalom which is extremely well considering the competition.?
The girls won the regional race and SEMSL League Championship last week. The top racers in the regional meet from the Slalom were Honkanen in second, Dunn in fourth, Peters in sixth and Elisabeth Wolf in tenth.
Dunn led the girls by taking first place in the Giant Slalom. Honkanen took second and Wolf placed in 11th.
The boys placed seventh out of 14 teams. Lake Orion won the regional race.
“It was their best performance all year. For a young team it was a great finish,” said Parrott. “The boys will be better and will be a team to contend with next year.
Leading racers for Clarkston in the Slalom were Nick Kellogg and Brent Vanitallie.
Grant Huber led in the Giant Slalom in 13th place.
Parrott was named Girls Coach of the Year during the regional race and Derek Delzer from Lake Orion was named Boys Coach of the Year.
