Relax, work out at Hot Yoga

Susan Stencil took her first yoga class five years ago. She was hooked and knew she wanted to open her own studio.
Stencil waited for the perfect place to open to home Clarkston Hot Yoga.
She found a vacant building on the corner of Sashabaw and Maybee Roads, and opened the hot yoga studio in August.
‘It’s the perfect job,? said Stencil, owner and director of the new studio. ‘I can have my own business and help people.?
Stencil has two heated rooms and offers different yoga classes including Venus Beginner, Earth Vinyasa Flow, Mars Power Vinyasa, Yin Yoga and Yoga for Athletes. She also has one Pilates class and Camp Yoga, for children ages 5-13.
Stencil wanted to offer a range of classes so people could try each one to see which one suited them.
Clarkston Hot Yoga has a new member special. For $30, you can go to Clarkston Hot Yoga for 15 consecutive days and attend an unlimited amount of classes.
‘It gives you a feel for all the classes,? she said. ‘We always offer the special.?
The yoga classes range from 80-103 degrees, depending on the class, allowing the muscles to heat up and soften for deeper stretching and more flexibility. It also opens the pores and detoxes the body from impurities.
‘It is amazing,? said Stencil. ‘Stretching is the best thing you can do for your body. When you stretch out it is beneficial to your joints, muscles and bones. It feels good. It helps with arthritis and strengthening your back.?
Venus Beginner is a basic yoga class done at 103 degrees with the same postures every time.
‘People learn the postures then try to deepen into the posture and get better at it,? said Stencil. ‘By the time they are done with the 90 minute class, they have worked every joint, ligament, muscle and tendon in their body.?
She has had many members tell her how good they feel after a few classes. Some have commented on their aches and pains being gone. A few have raved in excitement on losing pounds – one lost 11 and keeps shedding more off.
‘It’s nice because I wanted to do something to help people,? she smiled.
Stencil invites everyone to stop by on October 6 for Clarkston Hot Yoga’s Open House, 3:30 -7 p.m. They will have membership prizes, special packages, discounts offered and other surprises.
‘Classes will be free so everyone can come and try it out,? she said.
Classes are offered in early mornings and evenings during the week and mornings on Saturday and Sunday.
