Scarlett’s run breaks double OT tie for win

The crowd roared as the home team took their positions at the line of scrimmage.
Each side was cheering for their team in the double overtime excitement.
The Wolves were on their second down and West Bloomfield had previously scored three points from their field goal attempt.
The ball was snapped to quarterback Tyler Scarlett. He held onto it for the keeper play and rushed from the 10-yard line into the end zone, winning the game 41-38.
‘That probably took off 10 years off of my life right there,? jokingly said long-time Wolves head coach Kurt Richardson.
‘You just keep the faith that we are going to make the play and win the game,? he said. ‘We had the ball and put it into Scarlett’s hand. He clutched and made a great run.?
‘That’s one of the best football games I have coached in,? said Lakers Head Coach Jim Thomas. ‘It was a great game. They are a great team. We got to hold them. Scarlett made the difference in the game. He made some head way with the ball. It was a big play. It opened up and he ran for it. Somebody had to lose.?
Clarkston was first to score when Scarlett connected the ball to Dakota Bender.
Bender ran 66 yards to make the touchdown four minutes into the game. The kick from Jon Avery was blocked putting the boys, 6-0.
The Lakers fought back and slipped past Clarkston’s defense to take control of the board after scoring two touchdowns and one point after touchdown.
The Wolves regained possession after West Bloomfield’s failed attempt of scoring a field goal on their fourth down.
Scarlett passed the ball 63 yards to Chris Canada and he was stopped at the three yard line.
Bender scored his second touchdown only a few moments later.
The Wolves finished the 80-yard drive in seven plays by scoring a two point conversion. The battle for the lead continued after the Lakers scored a touchdown and a two point conversion, ending the first half, 21-14.
One more touchdown from Bender and another from Kyle Rivenburgh brought Clarkston into a short lead, until the Lakers tied the score.
Richardson watched the clock as seconds counted down. When the clock reached nine he called a time out for the team.
The team came back to the field and after a failed field goal, the game went into overtime.
Both teams scored and went into the second overtime with the Wolves winning.
Clarkston will play their Homecoming game this Friday against OAA Red newcomers Southfield-Lathrup Chargers (2-2).
‘We still have to get better. We got to make strides,? said Richardson.
Richardson does think that seeing West Bloomfield and their big plays will help the boys in upcoming games.
Kickoff is at 6:55 p.m.
