Scholarship for success

Theresa Suran of Clarkston, who attends Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast in Pontiac, won a $2,500 scholarship from Oakland Schools’ Scholarships for Success program.
Suran, who is focusing on Cosmetology, was one of 29 Career Technical Education (CTE) students from across Oakland County honored at their annual Recognition Breakfast.
“The 29 students recognized today aren’t here by accident. They are here because they make decision after decision to work hard to achieve their dreams and it is our pleasure to provide them with a scholarship to help them continue their education,” said Oakland Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson. “These students are strong examples of the opportunities attending an OSTC campus can provide.”
The annual event was organized by the Oakland Schools Education Foundation to provide CTE students attending one of Oakland Schools’ four technical campuses with financial assistance to attend college, trade school, or apprenticeship program.
Scholarship money comes from community donations at the organization’s annual Scholarships for Success Gala Dinner.
The dinner will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at Tam O’Shanter Country Club, 5051 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield Township. The speaker will be Steve Hill, vice president of U.S. Sales and Service for General Motors.
Since its inception in 1991, OSEF has awarded 323 scholarships totaling over $451,000 to Oakland County students.
