Katherine Mullins, a former Ortonville resident and Brandon Schools crossing guard and volunteer, died May 22. She was 53.
Mullins was a crossing guard at Belle Ann Elementary from September 1994 until May 2003.
‘Kathy was here for a long time as our crossing guard, which is an important position that not everyone rushed to do, but she enjoyed working with staff and students and loved being part of the school community,? said Mark Rodak, Belle Ann principal. ‘She was a very nice person that we’re going to miss very much.?
Besides working as a crossing guard, Mullins also volunteered in the schools. She would come in after guard duty and do attendance or help the teachers with anything they needed, recalled Ruth Rogan, Belle Ann secretary. Mullins also worked as a lunchroom aide at the Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School for a time.
‘She was a good-hearted lady,? said Rogan. ‘She would assist in any way possible.?
Mullins was preceded in death by her husband John. She is survived by children Michele (Daniel) Avis of Flint; Tronda Mullins of Ortonville; and Christopher George of East Lake; stepchildren Tanya (Donald) Bristow of Caro; Tina Godfrey of Reese; and Bruce (Michele) Mullins of Caro; grandchildren Brittieny Stephan; Danielle Avis and Miranda Avis. She is also survived by one sister, three brothers and many step-grandchildren.
The funeral service was 11 a.m. May 26, at the Sherman Wilk Funeral Home, 135 South St. Interment was in the Seymour Lake Cemetery.
