Kickers continued their winning streak last week with two more victories.
The Clarkston Varsity Soccer team finished the week celebrating their seniors with a 2-1 win over Goodrich on Thursday.
“It was senior night so all the seniors got to start the game which was nice,” said Ian Jones, head coach. “Then, we had youth night as well and had a lot of people watching.”
Goodrich scored within the first minute of the second half.
“Then, it was the case of getting the game back. It took awhile but we scored two goals in three minutes,” said Jones. “It was quite exciting for senior night.”
The Wolves tied it up with a goal from sophomore Dylan Walker off an assist from Ethan Wise with 13 minutes to go in the game.
Three minutes later, Wise broke the tie with the game winning goal.
“Ethan stepped up,” Jones said. “He set up Dylan to score and then he scored the win himself. He was the difference in the game.”
The Wolves opened the week with a 4-1 win over OAA Red foes North Farmington.
“We played as well as we have played,” said Jones. “We controlled the game for the first ten minutes. It was as intense as the first ten minutes of the game can be then things settled down.”
Clarkston was up 2-0 going into haltime with goals from Walker and freshman Richie Ludwig, scored within a minute of each other 24 minutes into the game.
Wise added two more goals to the score. The first one was made off a free kick, 11 minutes into the second half. The second goal came ten minutes later with an assist from Ludwig.
North Farmington scored with less than a minute to go in the game off a penalty kick.
“It was as controlled as it could have been. It was good,” said Jones. “Everybody was pretty much on their game.”
The Wolves (7-2) opened the week against Berkley on Tuesday and hope to continue their winning streak.
“When you have a winning streak there’s more belief,” said Jones. “We started winning earlier this season combined with how they are winning there’s more belief. When you win, it’s a good habit. You feel like you can win every game. Hopefully it continues.”
He added there are a few players with minor injuries, and he didn’t envision too many problems, “but you never know,” Jones said.
“Berkley has had good results and bad results so don’t know that to expect,” Jones added going into the game. “If we continue the way we have been playing, we won’t have too many problems.”
They head to Oxford on Thursday, Detroit Catholic Central on Monday and Stoney Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
JV plays at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
