Seeing shapes at the library

There is more to do at the Clarkston Independence District Library than just read and check out books.
The Clarkston Community Women’s Club, the Friends of the Library, and the Clarkston Farm and Garden Club recently joined together to fund and install an interactive garden kaleidoscope at the library last week created by artist Bob Anderson.
In addition, the library has a millage on the August 2 ballot. It is a renewal of the millage that the voters approved in 2014, as rolled down by the Headlee amendment for the past eight years, not a new levy.
This millage provides funding for the library and constitutes 95 percent of the library’s annual operating budget. The rest of the library’s budget comes from state aid, library fees, interest, and penal fines.
The average homeowner with a property having a market value of $330,000 (with a taxable value of approximately $150,000) would be paying $175 per year.
The amount of money generated by the millage is estimated to be $2,326,325 for the first year of an eight-year term for the purpose of library operations.
