Sliding into third

The girls took third place at the Stacie Shaieb tournament in Bloomfield Hills on Saturday.
For the tournament they were 2-1, bringing their overall record to 9-8.
They beat Madison Heights Bishop Foley, 9-1, and West Bloomfield, 12-2.
They lost to Ann Arbor Pioneer, 10-4.
Sarah Altene was the winning pitcher against Bishop Foley and West Bloomfield. She had a total of 14 strike outs and three runs in the winning games. Throughout Clarkston’s three games, Altene walked three batters.
Leading hitters for the day were Taylor Hasselbach, Katie Smith, Shantel Uballe, and Brook Chadwell.
Hasselbach hit 7-for-8 with two doubles, a triple, three home runs, eight RBI and one stolen base.
Smith was 7-for-9 and hit two doubles, two RBIs, and six stolen bases.
Uballe hit three doubles, one triple, and three RBIs and two stolen bases.
Chadwell had two home runs, one double and three RBIs.

The Wolves won two games against Troy Athens last Wednesday. They won the first game, 10-2, and the second game, 12-2.
‘The wins are always nice,? said Clarkston coach Don Peters. ‘The girls are doing well.?
Altene was the winning pitcher for the games. During the evening, she pitched four runs, six hits, no earned runs, five walks and six strike outs

Smith went 7-for-7, one triple, three RBIs and one stolen base.
Uballe hit 5-for-7, two doubles, one triple, an infield home run and 6 RBIs
Upchurch 2-for-3 with one RBI and two stolen bases.
‘The pitching is coming along and they ran bases really well,? said Peters. ‘We have been working on bunts. I thought Lindsey Upchurch continues to play outstanding defense.?
This weekend the team hosts the Michigan Stars Tournament.
‘It should be outstanding,? said Peters. ‘It will be fun.?
The Lady Wolves will play a minimum of five games.
Their first game is against Cranbrook. It starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
During the two-day tournament, a total of 125 games will be played.
There are 17-18 state ranked teams competing in the tournament.
In the past the division one champion has come out of tournament
The tournament is held at Liberty Park, located at 33600 Mound Rd. in Sterling Heights 48310.

JV and varsity will play Waterford Kettering on Wednesday.
‘They are pretty tough. We will have to work hard and see what happens,? said Peters.
Next Tuesday they will play rivals Lake Orion. Both games are away and are double headers.
The first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
