Spikers crowned OAA champs

Lady Wolves posted six wins last week as they move closer to the end of the regular season.
Spikers defeated Lake Orion on Oct. 20 in three sets in a OAA Red game. They kept the Lady Dragons from scoring higher than 18. They won 25-15, 25-18, 25-13.
‘By doing that we were 7-1 in the league and won the OAA Red,? said Volleyball Coach Kelly Avenall.
Jenna Coates had 24 digs and three aces. Allison Reis had 10 kills and Jessica Frakes had nine.
The girls continued the week to take down five teams at Rochester beating Brandon, Macomb Lutheran North, Ferndale and Plymouth Christian.
They beat Rochester, who they lost to earlier in the season in a league game. Clarkston won the first set 25-17 and Rochester came back in the second to win by one point.
The girls regrouped and won the tie-breaker set, 15-8.
Coates had 32 digs for the night and Reis had 11 kills.
The wins put the Spikers overall record to 35-8-2.
The girls play in the Andover Invitational on Saturday.
‘We were the champions last year so we are looking to repeat,? said Avenall.
They play in district playoffs next week. The playoffs begin on Tuesday but Clarkston has a bye and will compete against the winner of the Rochester/Lake Orion.
‘We don’t know who is going to win but it’s nice we have played both before,? said Avenall. ‘We know what to prepare for and what to look for. Our immediate goals are to win the tournament on Saturday and win district playoffs. We will spend the next few days preparing for those.?
The girls play at 5:30 p.m on Wednesday at Oxford High School.
The winner will play in the finals on Thursday at 7 p.m., also at Oxford.
