Clarkston is counting down to Friday when they host the MHSAA Division 1 Boys and Girls Bowling Region 3 at Century Lanes.
“We are probably in the toughest region in the state,” said Clarkston Boys Bowling Coach Ken Clayton.
The format has changed this year due to COVID. Teams now bowl four games and those games cound for singles and for the team.
“It gives us a chance,” Clayton said, adding the boys have had total scores of 1,000 the past few weeks. “If we have a good day those four games will get us in.”
The boys finished the season in second place in the OAA Red with one league loss to Oxford. They finished 10-3 overall and beat Farmington for the first time in four years.
“We finished strong,” said Clayton. “Our hope is we can carry it over. We have Macomb Dakota, L’Anse Creuse North, Oxford, Waterford Kettering, Romeo and Davison in our region. They are some of the top teams in the state.”
He added senior Patrick McLetchie has a good chance to qualify for in singles for the state meet. McLetchie finished the year with league high average at 222 and league high series.
“He has had a great senior year,” Clayton said. “He is a quiet leader. He leads by example. He’s a smart bowler so he knows how to help them out as well.”
For the Clarkston Girls Varsity Bowling team, senior Angelina Stowers will lead the team.
“They have a tough go because Kettering is very good, they are No. 1 in the state,” Clayton added.
