Tech students win at state competition

Students from Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northwest in Clarkston recently took the Culinary first place award at the 2018 Michigan ProStart competition.
The winning Culinary team prepared a three-course meal – first course, beet tortellini stuffed with a blue cheese filling; second course, pork tenderloin with a fried garlic and celery leaf crust; and third course, strawberry mousse with raspberry paté de fruit.
Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northwest also won fourth place in Management.
Sixty-two teams representing 23 career and technical centers from across Michigan, nearly 250 students, competed at the Michigan ProStart Competition, March 18-19.

The annual culinary and management competition was hosted by the Michigan Restaurant Association (MRA) Educational Support Foundation at the Lansing Center, Lansing.
The top teams shared in more than $1.8M in scholarships to help the students pursue careers in the foodservice industry.
MRAESF will send the Clarkston Culinary team, as well as the first place Management team from Saginaw Career Complex, to compete against teams from across the country at the 17th Annual National ProStart Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island, April 27-29.
