Three-vehicle accident

Back on August 20, an accident occurred at the end of the southbound I-75 off ramp at the Dixie Highway exit in Springfield Township.
The cause of the crash was a lone female driver, a 45-year-old from Lake, in a 2009 Ford Explorer who failed to stop at the stop sign at the end of the off ramp where it meets Dixie. This driver was turning north to head onto northbound Dixie and was immediately hit by a triple axel 2012 Freightliner dump truck driven by a 56-year-old Oxford man that was loaded with soil.
The dump truck hit the driver’s side door of the Explorer and the impact caused the Explorer to enter into the northbound lanes of Dixie, hitting a 2016 Kia Soul driven by a 45-year-old Clarkston resident that was travelling northbound on Dixie.
This impact caused the Kia to roll over onto its passenger side and stopped in the middle of the northbound lanes.
The Explorer continued heading east and stopped in the ditch on the east side of northbound Dixie.
Once paramedics arrived, the Jaws of Life had to be used to get the driver of the Explorer out of the vehicle.
Springfield Township Fire requested Life Flight but was eventually canceled and the driver of the Explorer was transported to Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc by ambulance.
The driver of the Explorer suffered a broken femur, a shattered pelvis, a ruptured spleen, and a small brain bleed.  While being extracted with the Jaws of Life, she never lost consciousness.
On August 24, from the hospital, the driver of the Explorer called the Springfield Township substation and spoke with an officer, saying she does not recall the crash or anything after it. The driver stated she would be in the hospital for quite a while.
The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured.  The driver of the Kia was also uninjured.
The driver of the Explorer was cited for failing to yield at a stop sign.
