Time to tee off

The long winter made it a challenge for golfers to get on the green to practice for the upcoming spring season..
On Thursday, golfers proved the winter didn’t slowed them down.
During their OAA Division Red Tournament, Clarkston’s varsity team placed third with a score of 313.
Individual medalists for the Wolves were Tom Ronk and Matt Fuller.
Ronk tied for first place with David Merkie from Waterford Kettering, with 73 strokes. Fuller took fifth place with 76.
‘While we were disappointed with our overall team finish today, Tommy Ronk’s round was outstanding. All of the players and coaching staff are proud of his fine start,? said coach Mark Wiegand.
‘Matt Fuller played solid as usual and if the balance of our team continues to improve now that we can get on the course, we should be more competitive as the season progresses.?
At Bald Mountain, Rochester Adams came in first place with a score of 309. Waterford Kettering took second place at 310, followed by Clarkston (313) and Lahser in fourth place (325). Rochester, Troy, Stoney Creek and Lake Orion rounded out the tournament at the bottom four teams.
The Wolves will compete with the same seven schools in the next OAA league tournament on Monday, May 12.
On Thursday, the team will compete against Rochester High School at 3:30 p.m.
While Rochester is still in process of putting together their varsity team, Wiegand expects Rochester to be ready.
‘Rochester is usually competitive and they will make it a competitive match for us on Thursday. We are looking forward to Jordan Roth to come around. Tommy Ronk works really hard and it’s starting to pay off for him.?
