Tournament leads with a success

Clarkston Community Education held their first annual Clarkston Schools Golf Tournament on July 14.
The tournament was held in cooperation with After School Golf Academy at Bald Mountain Golf Course in Lake Orion.
‘I thought it would be fun for all the kids to get together,? said Patsy Castillo, Clarkston Schools Enrichment Facilitator
Thirty-four participants from the ages 14 and under came out for the event. They competed in different divisions based on their age.
Joel Wells, from After School Golf Academy and Tiny Tots Golf School, coordinated and ran the event.
‘It went incredibly well,? said Wells. ‘For the golfers, it was the first tournament for a lot of them.?
The younger golfers had special tees and the amount of yards were shortened for them.
Parents were there to not only support their kids, but to caddy for them, too.
‘Parents came up to me to say how cool it was to caddy for their kids,? said Wells.
The event will be held every July and ran through Clarkston Community Education.
‘We hope it grows,? said Wells. ‘It gave kids at an early age a chance to experience a tournament.?
Wells has a goal to get winning golfers from surrounding school districts together to play in a championship tournament.
