Township meetings reduced to once a month

Oxford residents who follow local government will have one less meeting a month to keep track of next year. Township officials last week voted 6-1 to eliminate one of their two regular monthly meetings in 2008.
Regular meetings will now take place on the second Wednesday of each month. A second meeting will only take place on the fourth Wednesday if one is needed and then it will be called as a special meeting.
Supervisor Bill Dunn proposed the reduction as a cost-saving measure.
Right now, it costs the township $540 to conduct a meeting because each of the four trustees must be paid $110 plus another $100 is needed to pay the recording secretary.
Treasurer Joe Ferrari noted the agendas for the second monthly meeting were often dominated by administrative items as opposed to ‘resident-driven? issues.
‘It will just require better planning at the township administrative end to get things taken care of,? Ferrari noted. ‘By proper planning at our end, we should be able to get everything accomplished (with only one meeting) . . . I think in the long-run it will make things more efficient.?
Township planning commission meetings will remain on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month next year.
