Traffic crash on Dixie leaves two injured, hospitalized

Officers and the Independence Township Fire Department responded to Dixie Highway at Maybee Road for a two-vehicle traffic crash where one of the vehicles struck a building, January 5, just before 5 p.m.
A 68-year-old Clarkston man was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Trax northbound on Dixie Highway when he attempted a westbound turn into the Arizona Saddlery parking lot. A 74-year-old Springfield Township woman driving a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu was southbound on Dixie Highway and collided with the Trax as it was making the turn.
After the collision with the Trax, the Malibu left the roadway and went through the front of the EZ Duz-It Laundry, located at 6507 Dixie Highway.
The driver of the Malibu was transported by paramedics from the ITFD to McLaren Oakland Hospital where she was listed in serious condition as of late last week.
The driver of the Trax was transported by paramedics from the ITFD to St. Joseph Mercy Oakland where he was listed in stable condition as of late last week.
No injuries were reported inside of the EZ Duz-It Laundry.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in this crash.
