Versatility to lend a hand in successful season

After last season’s soggy end, Lady Hitters are looking forward to beginning their season this week with weather predictions in the 60s.
The girls varsity softball team has already warmed up with three scrimmages.
Coach Don Peters said they were good scrimmages for the girls and they look good for the season.
The girls will play their first game this week on Thursday at Davison.
‘We plan to play hard, have fun and take a look at what we need to work on,? said Peters.
Davison has an advantage with already playing a double-header against Fenton before going on Spring Break last week, but Davison lost both games.
Nine players are returning to the team this season and four new versatile players have been added to the already talented roster.
Lady Wolves? leading hitters from last season Taylor Hasselbach and Shantel Uballe are back including leading pitchers Sarah Altene and Bailee Braunreuther.
Braunreuther will also lend a hand by playing in different infield positions during the season.
A few changes have been made to this season,Jenni Jochum will move to the outfield position and Allie Reeves will be ready as catcher and to play on third during some games.
The new players include three freshmen – Megan Hastings, Tara Perry and Shauna Siwicki and a new Wolf, Junior Amy Harrison.
‘She swings a nice bat,? said Peters. ‘And she is a nice kid.?
Even though all the freshmen can play in different positions, Peters will have them in a few key places to help the team.
Hastings will be an infielder and pitcher and Perry will be in the outfield and hitter.
The goal for season is for the team to build onto their skills and get better.
‘We always want to continue to improve as individuals and players,? said Peters.
Another goal is to do well in the league and in playoffs. Last season they tied for first place in the league with Troy and Farmington.
‘We have great coaches helping us out,? said Peters. ‘The girls look good and I am pleased.?
The girls who didn’t go away on vacation last week worked on their throwing, hitting and catching to get ready for the games this week.
They have double header games at Davison on Thursday and at Holly on Friday.
The Lady Wolves will have their home opener next Wednesday against Troy-Athens.
All games begin at 4:30 p.m.
‘I am excited to start the season,? said Peters.
‘Come out and watch,? invited Peters to the community. ‘They are fun to watch.?
