Wendi’s Word: Inpiration renewed

It’s inspiring to talk to local authors especially Travis J. Thompson who I spoke to last week about his series and his signing at Clarkston Independence District Library on July 6, 6-8 p.m.
Even more inspiring is his daily word count which gets up in 4,000 words.
If you didn’t know I participate in National Novel Writing Month in which in the 30 days during November the goal is to hit 50,000 for a minimum word count, which equals a short novel.
I am also a co-Municipal Liaison (basically plan events, cheer on our writers and stock up on Word Sprint prizes because who doesn’t enjoy notebooks?)
I have a few projects in the works, but it always comes down to time. I carry a notebook on me (I carry between 3-4 notebooks on me – work, fiction creations, and scrapbooking). Then, I edit during the once a month write-ins we hold for the region.
After talking to Thompson and feeling the creative fire coming back I wrote in my planner to write 2,000 words for this coming week and continue it every week after.
It’s a goal and it’s a realistic goal. If my six-month-old son continues to fall asleep around 8:30 p.m. I could write at least 500 words. I just need to stick to one of my projects and if I have any ideas for others to just jot them down like Adventures of JD – Tales from a Baby’s Nursery. (It’s an idea, though more of a title right now.)
Or when my young son falls asleep I could read. Or sketch out a scrapbook page. (I have a lot on my creative to-do wish list.) What will happen is collapsing on the couch and not changing TV screen from the Baby Channel in fear he will wake up when the familiar sound of Notekins and Tec the Tractor is no longer on. Or folding clothes. Or turning the living room back into it’s pre-baby layout and putting away toys and blankets. Basically mom priorities. Or scanning through Etsy and questioning how I missed planners becoming the newest trend with stickers and accessories. What happened to my boring high school planner?
You can read the story about Thompson, a Clarkston resident, in next week’s edition.
Speaking of creativity, check out Imagine That! Teen Art Show at Clarkston Independence District Library this Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m.
