What ‘Matt’ers: Growth spurts

You know, it’s funny how hindsight is 20/20.
People tell you things that at the time you appear to hear, but in reality, it goes in one ear and out the other.
Such is the case with our three kids. Let me explain.
Back in 2005 when we had our first child, folks would tell us to enjoy the time because it flies by.
Yeah, yeah, I thought.
Sure. Whatever.
Now here we are 16 years later and there are days that I want the past back with all three kids.
All the time we talk about fun family vacations, holidays, and just any memories we have with our whole family, and there have been a lot over the years, let me say that.
Our kids are now 16, 14 and 11, and that is crazy to me, just blows my mind. They all have gone through growth spurts and all have unique personalities, attitudes, and interests.
It just seems like yesterday we were at the hospital welcoming each of them to the family and now two are in high school – one driving – and one in middle school.
Yes, for sure, time flies when you are having fun. I have seen that happen firsthand.
My wife and I have been married 17 years, which again, seems unreal to me. I can still remember the day we met – almost 20 years ago – and starting our life together and seeing what it has become.
I am proud of our family, especially with how we have stuck together the past two years during this ongoing pandemic.
Our routines have become anything but routine, but we have chosen to focus on the positives and spending quality time together. There really is no other choice, you know?
With the new year coming up in a few days, I think we are all anxious to hit the “restart” button and get going with a clean slate for 2022.
We all want to be healthier, take on new challenges, travel, and maybe improve the house a bit. Those are all worth tackling.
Let’s also not forget to keep faith strong, keep families strong, and do all you can to find the positives and humor in every situation.
Not always easy, but the result is worth it. Absolutely.
Happy New Year, Clarkston!
