The Lady Wolves capped off the regular season, going 3-1 at the Birmingham Seaholm tournament and going undefeated at two quads last week.
The Clarkston Varsity Volleyball team defeated Oxford, 25-17, 25-15; and Utica Eisenhower, 25-19, 25-18 in pool play at the Seaholm tournament on Saturday. They also defeated Romeo during the first round of playoffs, 25-13 and 25-12. They faced Eisenhower in the finals and won the first game, 25-22 before losing the next two games, 25-20, 15-13.
Claire Nowicki had 30 kills, three blocks for the day as Jen Chupinsky had six aces and 33 digs; and Kayla Luchenbach had eight blocks.
The Lady Wolves hosted a quad last Thursday with Macomb Dakota, Marian and Birmingham Seaholm where they went 3-0 for the night. They defeated Dakota, 25-20, 25-22; Marian, 23-25, 25-17, 25-23; and Seaholm, 25-9, 25-22.
“It gives us confidence,” said Kelly Pinner, head coach. “Marian and Dakota are great teams. Seaholm always plays us tough. Hopefully, this shows we are getting to that point we want to get to by Wednesday.”
She added it helps going into the post season, especially against Lake Orion in Clarkston’s first round of districts.
“We had a couple weeks there when we had losses against Lake Orion and Mercy where they doubted themselves and their talent,” said Pinner. “Regardless of me telling them you are playing great teams and you are right there with them. Until they get over that hump and start beating those teams they don’t believe in themselves. Right now they definitely believe they can beat any team out there. Rockford is one of the top teams in the state and only has three losses. One of them is to us. We are right there with the best teams in the state.”
The girls opened the week going 3-0 at Rochester Adams’ quad, Oct. 23. The Lady Wolves defeated Avondale, 25-14, 25-11; Royal Oak, 25-1, 25-8; and Adams, 25-8, 25-23.
“It was a good day to get some kids some playing time,” said Pinner.
For the two quads, Haley Stewart had ten aces and 19 digs; Skyelar Jidas had nine aces and six blocks; and Corrin Gualtieri had 14 kills and six blocks.
The Lady Wolves (35-13) host the MHSAA Volleyball Class A District 13 playoffs. Clarkston plays Lake Orion in the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. The winner moves on to the finals on Thursday at 7 p.m.
