Wolves fall in overtime in makeup game

The snow delayed Clarkston’s Annual Christmas Tournament, but the icers were ready to play on Saturday.
The day started with the Wolves going against Cranbrook-Kingswood.
Cranbrook-Kingswood started the game off by scoring the first goal only a few minutes after the game started.
The Wolves tied the score less than four minutes into the third period.
Clarkston grabbed the puck away from the Cranes possession and took it down the ice to the net.
Tyler Frakes passed the puck to Adam Frank. Frank hit it in to tie with Cranbrook’s goal they made in the first period.
Patrick Brown brought the Cranes back into the lead after scoring on a power play.
The Wolves had two minutes left in the period to score. They took their shot on the net. Goalie Matt Hansberry kneeled down to save it and the puck was knocked back onto the ice.
Michael Fiteny quickly moved forward and finished it off putting it into the net. David Cannons and Frakes assisted on the goal.
Cranes pushed the puck towards Clarkston’s goal and defender Dan Smith sent the puck back to the other side of the ice, finishing the game tied at two.
The game went into two overtime periods before Samuel Williams won the game for Cranbrook with one minute left.
Neeko Muniz made 33 saves during the game and the Wolves made 15 shots on goal.
“I think we played very well. Neeko kept us in the game and it went into a double overtime,” said Clarkston Coach Bryan Krygier. “They’re a good well-coached team. You do one fundamental thing wrong and they capitalize on it. We lost a guy on a face off and they tapped it in.
‘It’s not how we want to lose, then again I was happy with the way they played.”
The boys continued on Sunday playing Novi.
The Wildcats were in the lead by three when Clarkston made their first goal in the second period.
Two Novi players were in the penalty box and the Wolves found themselves against a tight defense.
The boys passed it back and forth to each other looking for an opening. Clarkston found a way in as one Wildcat came back into the game.
With an assist from Smith, Adam Frank scored Clarkston’s lone goal for the night.
Novi retaliated scoring three more goals and winning the game, 6-1.
“We didn’t respond well today. We didn’t score any goals. When you don’t score any goals you are going to lose,” said Krygier.
Muniz had eight saves from the first two periods and Jonathan Williams had six in the final period. The Wolves made 22 shots on goal.
Cranbrook won the tournament, beating Davison in the championship game, 2-0.
The Wolves first game after the holiday break will be on Jan. 10 against Stoney Creek at Onyx Rochester Ice Arena. The game will be at 8 p.m.
“We got to work harder,” said Krygier. “We got to hit. We got to continue to improve every game.”
