Wolves ready for post-season run, begins Saturday at districts

Clarkston Varsity Softball is prepping for the first round of the district playoffs set for this Saturday morning at Waterford Mott.
“Our main focus right now is maintaining our competitiveness throughout the game,” said Katie Smith, head coach. “We have talented girls but it is a matter of using that talent collectively as a team.”
The Wolves opened last week against Lake Orion. They lost the first game, 7-4. Alex Moore was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Ella Cady, Makayla Ervin, Emma Jarvis and Keira Tolmie each had one run. Gushen pitched the whole game with two strikeouts.
The second game was postponed until June1 due to weather.
The girls lost their double header against Farmington, May 25.
They lost the first game, 5-3. Mackenzie Fazekas went 2-for-3 in hitting with a double and a homerun, tying the game at 3-3. Fazekas had two RBIs.
Hannah Wayne went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Graci Multhaupt went 2-for-4. Ava Gushen pitched the whole game.
The Wolves lost the second game, 13-2. Gushen and Riley Haener pitched during the game. Multhaupt went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hannah Wayne scored the other RBI. Kaitlyn Ratich reached home twice.
Clarkston competes in the MHSAA Division 1 Softball District 27 on Saturday.
“We can’t believe districts are already here, but we are working hard to be prepared,” said Smith. “We do a good job of pushing each other to have confidence and to execute the game plan both on offense and defense. We are excited for what’s to come.”
They play Waterford Kettering in the semifinal at 10 a.m. The district championship is at 2:30 p.m. The district games are at Waterford Mott.
