LAKE ORION — The Clarkston Girls Varsity Lacrosse team is ready to face a familiar foe as they start playoffs this Friday against the Grand Blanc Bobcats.
“The girls are very excited,” said Melanie Brazil, head coach. “They have put in a lot of work.”
The Wolves finish the regular season with two games this week against Troy and Notre Dame Prep.
“It’s nice sometimes with certain schedules you have your last game and then you wait an entire week until you are playing in your first playoff game,” Brazil said. “My girls are in the zone. They are working hard. They have been playing games all week so they will be prepped. Everything we have done in practice, everything we have learned from the teams we have played we are going to take all that knowledge and use it against Grand Blanc. We are going to look back at some film from when we played them the first time and won. We are going to use it all to our advantage.”
Clarkston opened the season with a 20-19 win over Grand Blanc on March 20.
Brazil shared the team has grown since then.

“Our team chemistry is much better. From day one, the girls have gotten closer,” she said. “They have continued to work hard. We are really putting into perspective grit and hard work this year. Whoever wants it more, whoever is going to work more in the game, give more in practice. We practice every day like we are in a game so when we are in a game we are fully prepared. We know what it takes to work hard.”
She added it has paid off as the team finished last week with a winning record 6-5 after splitting the week.
They defeated Farmington on May 5, 12-6.
“Jillian Benson and Claire Naboychik had a good game,” Brazil shared. “Sydney Fischer had a strong game in our midfield.”
The Wolves lost to Lake Orion last Thursday, 18-7.
“Lake Orion was a tough loss,” Brazil said. “Audrey Farner had an excellent game. She had a few goals and some really good assists. Cameron Stanley had a lot of really nice saves against Lake Orion. We were short a couple of girls and then we had a couple of injuries towards the end of the game. We played tough and fought hard for it. I’m not too disappointed. There is some stuff to work on as we go into our last regular season week. It should be a good week for us.”
The Wolves wrap the regular season at home on Wednesday against Notre Dame Prep. JV plays at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
Clarkston will honor their seniors during the game and something special is planned for half time during the varsity game.
The Wolves play Grand Blanc (7-9) in the MHSAA Division 1 Girls Lacrosse Pre-Regional 4 game at Grand Blanc High School this Friday at 6 p.m.
